The annual Christmas silly hat fun shoot was a roaring success. Everyone was wearing silly hats, some dafter that others and some has put a great deal of effort into their creations. This just added to the excellent atmosphere and a very enjoyable day at the club. 14th October 2006 - New club colours now registeredThanks to the determined effort and hard work of our secretary the members of club agreed on the new club colours at the last meeting. These have now been formally registed with GNAS. The colours registed consist of a black top with "Wolverhampton Company of Archers" printed in gold on the back the the clubs crest embroidered on the front along with the option to have your name added as well. Please watch this space for further details and how to obtain the new colours 1st August 2004 - West Midlands Championships grows first rose for a VI archerThe West Midlands Regional Championships hosted by Wyre Forest Archers in Upper Arley saw a First in archery this weekend. Dorothy Cooper became Britains first visually impared archer to achieve an 800 Rose award for the Hereford round. Dorothy, a B2 class visually impaired archer completed the round using a tactile sighting system achieving a score of 811, finishing 3rd in the overall tournament. To 'put icing on the cake' Dot and her team mates Michael, Gloria and Mark also took the West Midlands Regional Team Trophy, along with the West Midlands Regional Gents award. 3rd April 2004 - Dorothy Cooper wins B2 Visually Impaired National Indoor ChampionshipThe British Blind Sport National Indoor Championship was held in Wenlock Hall on Saturday 3rd April 2004 at the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall. The tournament was well attended with visually impaired archers from across the country coming to compete in their various classifications for the title of Visually Impaired Indoor National Champion. The championships consists of a double Portsmouth round (each Portsmouth consisting of 5 dozen arrows at 20 yards on a 60 centimetre target). Wolverhampton Company of Archers member Dorothy Cooper competed in the B2 recurve event, requiring the use of a tactile sighting system. Dorothy, the B2 Visually Impaired Outdoor Champion for 2003, shot well setting the standard with a score of 494 for the first Portsmouth round and a new B2 national record. Not letting up the pressure on her competition she finished the tournament with a total of 975, again setting a B2 classification visually impaired national record for the double Portsmouth round and giving her a decisive win. For further information on visually impaired archery please visit the British Blind Sport website. 2nd March 2003 - Royal armouries (Leeds) tripSunday 2nd March saw a clear bright (if a little chilly) start and proved to be a fortuitous sign for the day ahead. Several of the club members had organized a trip to the Royal Armouries Museum at Leeds. The coach departed at a very blurry 7am with the members of the club in high spirits. After almost 3 hours of driving with one stop off we arrived at Leeds armoury. The museum is spread over five floors, each split into various sections. Each section covered a different aspect of weaponry and Armour, from hunting and self defense to state of the art military equipment. The displays covered different areas of the world and different stages in history from the stone-age right up to date. It was almost impossible to find an aspect that was not covered in some way. If the vast array of exhibits was not enough then the day was also interspersed with various displays in the 'tilt yard', covering jousting right through to falconry. Meanwhile, inside the museum there were also various 'interpretations' performed by extremely knowledgeable and well-trained actors. They performed various displays from martial arts demonstrations to a very poignant short story describing the point of view of an English archer about to go into battle at Agincourt. There was even an opportunity on the fifth floor to have a go on various simulations, from a rifle range to a crossbow range and an armed police simulation range (and you soon realize how difficult it is to make life saving decisions in a stressed environment). All in all, the members of the club had a thoroughly enjoyable (if exhausting) time. Many thanks to Jules for keeping us fed with samosas, and a very special thanks to Mim for taking the reigns and getting everything so well organized. There are some photographs of the trip on our photo album pages. But the best source for further information is the Royal Armouries website. 21st December 2002 - Christmas festive hat shootThe annual festive hat shoot went ahead as planned on the 21st December, despite the freezing temperatures. Although not as many members as usual turned up, those that braved the weather had a very rewarding days shooting. Many thanks to Mim for keeping everyone supplied with tea, coffee and food. The hot soup at lunch time was very much appreciated, helping to drive off the effects of the cold. 6th December 2002 - Skittles EveningOn the 6th of December the Swan Hotel in Brewood played host to a skittles evening for the club. A great time was had by all, with somewhat of an excess of beer and food being consumed (as was evident by the subdued atmosphere at the club the following day). The infamous ladies versus gents match was somewhat in dispute with the ladies winning 2535 to the gents score of -53. A judge was called in on the somewhat suspect scores and a decision was made to have a final short round to decide the victors. This more carefully monitored round resulted in the gents winning by 4 points. The ladies are still in dispute about this and have demanded a rematch. In order to ease the rather competitive tension in the air more beer was consumed and situation was resolved. |
